The Widow’s Mite

30 x 24 inch

Oil and Acrylic on Canvas

Painted in the Impressionist style and based on the texts in Mark 12 and Luke 21, The Widow’s Mite uses light to guide the viewer's eye around the composition and call attention to the important subjects. The scene provides a glimpse into a moment of exceptional faith and sacrifice… one that the world looked right past. With only two small copper coins, also known as “mites”, a widow approached the temple. Though her offering, worth only a few pennies, was nothing in the world’s eyes, it was all the widow had to live on. Her meager gift was overlooked by the people around her, but it was seen and praised by the God of Heaven. To Him, it is never the amount of money given that impresses; it is the faith behind the gift that makes it great. When we offer our own time, talents, or money, let us remember her example and what is truly commendable in the eyes of God.
