Becca Gables, an irrepressibly positive young widow, has her hands full. She not only homeschools her three children—Violet, Oliver, and Hazel—but also owns Tales & Tails, a whimsical local bookshop and café. Her days are filled with lesson plans, great literature, and creamy coffee as she educates her children and tries to keep her struggling bookshop afloat.
To earn extra income for Tales & Tails, Becca agrees to cater a cocktail party at the Paper Palace, hosted by Phyllis Grant, the self-proclaimed matriarch of a long line of paper magnates. This party serves as an opportunity for Phyllis to showcase the importance of her family in the community.
Everything seems to be going smoothly until Becca visits the old mansion the following day to collect payment. She is shocked to discover that the hostess has died overnight. What initially appears to be a terrible accident is soon revealed to have a more sinister cause. Guided by her faith, her family and friends, and her insatiable curiosity, Becca peels away the layers of this mystery, leading to a conclusion that will rock their little town of Crystal Run, Wisconsin.
Nestled along Wisconsin’s winding riverbanks, Crystal Run is a small town built on the paper industry and bound together by faith, tradition, and more than a few secrets. At its heart sits Tales & Tails Bookshop, a whimsical bookshop where stories come alive beneath strands of twinkle lights. Here, the scent of freshly brewed coffee mingles with the rustle of pages, and if you’re lucky, a cat might curl into your lap while you read.
But life in Crystal Run isn’t as quiet as it seems. Beneath its cozy charm lie mysteries waiting to be uncovered—and Becca Gables, widowed mother of three and bookshop owner, has a knack for finding the truth. With her faithful golden retriever Butterscotch by her side, Becca discovers that in Crystal Run, every corner of town hides a tale… and sometimes, a tail.
Welcome to Crystal Run
Step through the glossy teal door and into the charming Tales & Tails Bookshop, where the scent of coffee and old pages wraps around you like a warm embrace. A canopy of twinkle lights sparkles overhead as Licorice, the regal black cat, glides forward to greet you. Follow his graceful lead through rows of bookshelves brimming with stories eager to be discovered.
The sweet aroma of creamy coffee and warm sugar draws you toward the café counter tucked in the back. Always eager to play, Toffee, the tailless Manx, drops his toy mouse at your feet. A cheerful fire crackles in the massive stone fireplace, where framed maps of Narnia, Avonlea, and Neverland rest along the gleaming wooden mantle. Nearby, Butterscotch, the gentle golden retriever, dozes contentedly in the firelight.
Find a soft, well-loved chair by the hearth and sink into its warmth as snow drifts past the window. The teal mug in your hands steams gently, pages rustle softly, and for a blissful moment, the world beyond the glossy teal door fades away.
